The steel gas cylinders use to contain compressed gases are characterized by a working pressure and a test pressure.
The ratio between these two type of pressures is established by the ADR standards in force to ensure maximum safety during the use, the handling and the movement of gas cylinders. These values have been established by observing the behaviour of different types of gases in relation to temperature and pressure. During the examination, the steel vessels must be subjected to high pressures in order to test their strength. Consequently, the actual working pressure of the cylinders is lower than the test pressure.
On the market are available gas cylinders with 200 bar and 300 bar as working pressure.
The cylinders with a working pressure of 200 bar are most commonly used in certain applications because of the specific needs that characterize these sectors.
However, in some instances, opting for gas cylinders or bundles that have a working pressure of 300 bar brings several productivity advantages.
>>Advantages of cylinders with 300 bar operating pressure:
- More gas stored and therefore a longer working cycle;
- Unaltered quality of gas;
- Saved time in relation to the management of changing gas cylinder and other associated activities;
- Reduction of the gas cylinder size used to obtain same ‘MC’ and accordingly, less space is needed:
- Alternatively, it is possible to choose larger capacities than 200 bar version and obtain the same amount of gas:
- As it’s needed to store fewer gas cylinders, consequently there could be a reduction in the maintenance costs that can reach up to 33% less, such as saving in expenses for retesting, repainting or handling of cylinders and also for replacing valves.
>> The solutions offer by Ikaros:
At Ikaros srl you can find gas cylinders and bundles with 200 bar or 300 working pressure suitable for different types of gas and applications, designed and manufactured by one of our partners, the company Wystrach Gmbh specialized in supplies of solutions for the transport and storage of compressed gases.
In addition, Ikaros srl offers a wide range of dedicated valves for working pressure above 200 bar. Solutions are also available for larger requirements such as the Step Down valve and valve with integrated flow regulator (VIPR) for industrial use, manufactured by our partner Müller Gas Equipment A/S (Dk); Valves with integrated pressure reducer for inert gas and oxygen.
